
After more than 25 years dedicated to politics, Borrell returns to the academic world, offering the EUI his enormous experience within the European Institutions.
From 1982 until 1996 he held high-level public management positions; he was Secretary of State for Finance and Minister for Public Works, Transport, the Environment, Housing and Telecommunications.
From October 1999 until May 2004, he chaired the Joint Congress Senate Committee on European affairs of the Spanish Parliament
Borrell then turned towards Europe. From July 2004 until January 2007, he was President of the European Parliament and from then until June 2009, President of the Committee on Development of the EP.
Borrell has achieved several degrees in European and North American universities: a degree in Aeronautical Engineering at the Polytechnic University of Madrid, a degree and doctorate in Economics at the Complutense University Madrid, a Master’s in Operations Research at Stanford University and a degree in Engineering Economics at the French Petroleum Institute.
