Georgieva: Bulgaria's Commissioner-designate
Kristalina Georgieva, Vice President of the World Bank, has been reported by EU Commission President José Barroso as the new Bulgarian Commission nominee. She replaces Rumiana Jeleva, who withdrew her candidacy after receiving fierce criticism from MEPs for her performance at her nomination hearing.

If she succeeds where Jeleva failed, Georgieva will take on the Commission’s International Cooperation, Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Response portfolios. She has been at the World Bank since 1993. Photo credit: World Bank Photo Collection.
